New Discontinued titles Announced

I know, its been a while since I posted something here. I went away on vacation for almost 2 months and when I got back, things were hectic for me getting things back in gear. So many different things have been happening in the marketplace it is hard to keep up at times. Besides the economy, there are other major factors contributing to the change in the DVD marketplace. According to Warner Brothers, there is still a good life in DVDs and it will outlast the life of VHS.

One thing that I have been noticing are depreciation in prices of DVD's in general, which shows a sign of the times as well. New technologies are emerging and becoming more popular. Obviously Blu-ray was not the new species expected to usurp standard DVDs. Timing of the Blu-ray was way off for the people and the unexpected market crash and heavy prices for the upgrade made this a niche product that most people could not justify the costs. Streaming media, downloading, torrents, iTunes and new markets like Google's Android Music which is getting in gear for competition, Amazon's Kindle, the iPad, Netflix moving to mobile devices, and a few others are point to signs that mobile movies are in our future.

I have had doubts about Redbox and Blockbuster Express from the get-go. Although they are doing well, Redbox is already looking to do other things, which is smart because this brand of rental has a very short life! It is only a small step towards something else. Blockbuster on the other hand is always two steps behind, but they do have their streaming media set up on some devices, but years behind Netflix.

But while changes are happening home movie industry, the fact remains that, like VHS, many titles will not be converted to streaming content and remain in DVD form. Much of this is obvious to those who keep on top of the business end of things, but there is a large amount of people who still dont know what streaming is, or how to get Netflix to stream or are uninterested, or have yet to hear about hulu.com.

Needless to say, a list of the most recent discontinued titles from the previous few weeks are posted here. These are just the highlights of what is most commercially viable. Trying to steer clear of possible re-releases and titles that there is very little interest in. So without further ado, here is the list. List are by studio, title, then year.

This latest list has a handful of Warner titles at the bottom, all of which looks like Warner is phasing out their snapper case titles. While I did not include everyone, I did the ones that looked most promising, and ones that I do not believe have a re-release in a double, triple or quad pack.
