Rialto and Criterion

It has been a little while since I have been able to write an update. Briefly, I added Sleeping Beauty as an entry along with some pricing info. There are many bootlegs of this DVD so I have made the decision that all DVD's identified as "new" must include all original items. In the case of the Disney films, they must include slipcases or, for the Treasures, must include the tins. This is to prevent including pricing information for items that may potentially be faked. Items claimed as used I trust have more validity as most bootleg sellers identify themselves to sell new items. So when you use the pricing info, most of the newer Disney items are priced only with slipcases. Recently I stumbled upon www.rialtopictures.com, a company that specializes in classic films that are remastered for theatrical release. Recently they released the film Elevator to the Gallows in the theaters, a film that was once obscure and the video was quite rare.
The film, an early film by French director Louise Malle, some say mark the beginning of the French New Wave. Secondly, the film has a unique original score by Miles Davis. Miles and his band were experimenting with the new cool jazz and improvisational playing by watching the film and recording the soudtrack as the film was happening. I bring this up because the majority of the remainder of Rialto's films have all become part of the Criterion Collection. I am hopeful that this film becomes part of the Criterion Collection in the near future.
Furthermore, the DVD Last Year at Marienbad, which is a hard to find title and usually fetches near 100.00, is slated to be released theatrically by Rialto Pictures. No date is set, however, it is something to ponder about this DVD as it may see another life on DVD afterall.
