These titles are listed as discontinued, although some may still show availability at various online retailers.
Kiss - Kissology - Volume 1 (1974-1977) This is for the 3-disc set edition, not the current 2-disc set. The third disc features 7 songs from the Madison Square Garden concert in 1977.
The Chronicles of Narnia - The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (Four-Disc Special Edition) The 4-disc set also comes in the Gift Pack with statues and whatnot during the christmas season which is also being discontinued (if not already). These sets features loads of extras - commentary upon commentary, featurettes, special effects behind the scenes, trailers, extended scenes, etc,. Definately a must if you are a fan of the film.
The Getaway Although this version is out of print from Warner Brothers, they also released a Deluxe Edition with some extras not available on the original. It is also available in The Essential Steve McQueen Collection (Bullitt Two-Disc Special Edition / The Getaway Deluxe Edition / The Cincinnati Kid / Papillon / Tom Horn / Never So Few) and the grand Warner Mega Classics Collection.
Black Emanuelle from Televista. The Emanuelle series has also been a long cult favorite, especially the 70's sexploitation star Laura Gemser. If this fare interests you, I would definately reccomend Black Emanuelle's Box 1 (4pc) (Bonc Ws Ltd Dol). It is a set coming from the newly formed DVD distributors of sexploitation films Severin Films, and this set features 3 rare classics all digitally restored to their uncut versions. To make this set more interesting, it is also very limited to only 4,000 sets. I also read that this set might have a delivery set back due to the subtitle company ejecting to do both the X and XXX version of Emauelle Around the World due to its explicit content. So they are looking for another subtitle company. Further, Severin Films recently released the 1979 classic
Immoral Women (Ws Sub Dol), the sequel to the famed OOP title Immoral Tales (Anchor Bay) from director Walerian Borowczyk, that the film was returned by a large corporation due to the cover being distateful, i.e. the bunny between the legs. Needless to say, Severin reports that a change in the cover might happen.
The Road Warrior. The Mel Gibson career bringing film is now disconitued. I do not see any other editions available, but on the other hand I do not see this film going into obscurity. This DVD is from Warner Brothers in a snapper case.
Mahabharata (1989) (2pc) Peter Brooks, who also directed Meeting with Remarkable Men and Marat / Sade (also check out the older Image Entertainment edition and compare) took on the sacred texts of the Hindus and made an amazing 4 hour epic film. This set is released by Image Entertainment.
W. Eugene Smith - Photography Made Difficult. Another Image Entertainment title catered to the arts focusing on this well known photographer in this documentary.
The Doll Squad From Image Entertainment's Cult Cinema line, this horror film from Cult director Ted V. Mikels, who also directed the recently discontinued The Corpse Grinders and The Corpse Grinders/Corpse Grinders II (2-pack).
The Gene Krupa Story. From MGM comes the story of the Legendary Jazz musician.
The Saragossa Manuscript. What a long, strange trip this one is. Presented by Martin Scorses and Francis Ford Copolla and dedicated to Jerry Garcia, this film brings to life the classic literaty masterpiece The Manuscript Found in Saragossa (Penguin Classics). This story involves archaic knowledge of alchemy, cabalistic and the mystical arts surrounding during the Neoplatonic Wars. This was released by Image Entertainment.
Gesualdo - Death for Five Voices. A documentary by maestro Werner Herzog on the life of the insane and murderous musician, Don Carlo Gesualdo, Prince of Venosa (1560-1613).
Naked City - Death of Princes. From the Naked City television series, one of the titles has been discontinued for an unknown reason. The long out of print film version of Naked City from Jules Dassin is set for re-release from Criterion Collection this March.
And to wrap it up, one that I would keep my eye on closely is the Woody Allen classic What's Up, Tiger Lily?. This edition is released by Image Entertainment includes alternate television audio tracks. If you know about this film, it iss Allen's debut and he dubbed a new audio track for the voices to create his own story based on the older Japanese film International Secret Police: Key of Keys.
Oh! One last thing. Our forum members brought this up in regards to what is happening with the notorious film Boomerang, the 1947 film noir film from Elia Kazan. Printed as #16 of the Noir series from Fox Films, most know it has since been recalled, yet, a limited supply has been released to the public. Amazon is offering the complete Fox Film Noir Boxed Set, #'s 1-18. The suspense (how appropriate) is that the photo shows only 17 titles, missing the title of Boomerang. Yet the details in the description states 18 discs and lists Boomerang as one of the titles. So whether or not Amazon will include this is much speculated. Needless to say, its a great set to get in one fell swoop at a great price! It comes to about $7.44 a disc (with Super Saving Shipping! Woohoo!!!).
So there is the current listing of the latest titles to be removed from the shelves, if you are still able to find them in the stores.
