While the Christmas shopping season is over, shopping for you and your collection might just be beginning. These special edition boxed sets are listed as discontinued or discovered as out of print. Many are still available, but quantities are limited.

Here is a listing of the most notable titles listed as discontinued or recently discovered out of print titles. Some are according to MMM while others are reported from various sources around the net in the forum. All titles are subject to change availability and status without notification.

Lastly and newsworthy, just reported today in our forum, a few Criterions are listed as out of print on the official Criterion Collection website. These appear to still be available at some online sellers.

 

 NOTES:

It has been reported at a number of places that the Blu-Ray edition of the Blade Runner Ultimate Suitecase Edition set is coming with the 5th disc labeled correctly, but the DVD itself is coded with the same material as Disc 1 of the set. While Warner is setting up a return service, it is something to consider if you plan on keeping it sealed. Not sure how this might effect collectability in the future if the return program is discontinued and the disc is not corrected. I am also not certain if all sets were made this way or if only a percentage of them were made this way.

Furthermore, it is reported from various sources that there is limited to only 103,00 for the entire set. Accordingly, the first 70,000 are SD, while the remaining 33,000 are split between Blu-Ray and HD-DVD.

Canadians are treated to a more rare version of the set which is limited to only 2,500 of each version.

The Hairspray Locker Set is still available. Some report that the lime-green locker is harder to find and the hot-pink is more readily available. Others are reporting that the lime-green is exclusive to Amazon and TWEC (FYE, Sam Goody and Saturday Matinee) stores.

 The Jason Bourne Collection is having a time recently with Amazon's stock going in and out of stock. It is one of the hottest sellers of these collections during the holiday season which may account for some of the stock disappearing. Other online sites appear to not be regaining their stock.

 The Harry Potter Suitcase Set might be there a little longer than the rest for a number of reasons. It is probable that, since Blade Runner had 103,000 for a cult title, Potter would probably get minimally twice that many. Most collector's are more savvy nowadays and know that its an incomplete set to begin with, as there are 2 more movies to make and will probably hold out for a more complete collection.

 The Help! Limited Edition set is pricey at the start, but one that will be sought after. It has been out of print for a very long time and here it is once again. Its available in a single disc edition, but this set looks nice.

The titles released by Criterion Collection should be regarded as highly desired among collectors. There were no notices in any of the recent Criterion newsletters, so these seemed to have been pulled suddenly for whatever reason.
